The second meaning of the GDR symbol is directly connected to the Indian medicine wheel. In most American Indians tribes they have one unique symbol that has a universal meaning. Which is the medicine wheel for healing. This symbol is the most poetically fitting, in its meaning of circle of life and heal the Earth.
The medicine wheel is scared, the native people believe, because the
Great Spirit caused everything in nature to be round except the element,
stone. Stone is the instrument of destruction.
The Sun, Sky, Earth and Moon are round. The sky is deep like a Bowl.
Everything that breathes is round like the body of a human being; things
that grow from the ground like the stem of a plant is round. Thus man should
look upon the Medicine Wheel (circle of life) as sacred. It is the symbol
of the circle that marks the edge of the world and therefore, the Four
Winds that travel there. It is also the symbol of the year.
The Sky, the Night, and the Moon go in a circle above the Sky, therefore,
the Circle is a symbol
of these divisions of time. It is the symbol of all times throughout
creation.
The Native People make their teepees circular. There camp is circular.
They sit in a circle in all
ceremonies. A circle that is made for ornament, undivided in any way,
is understood as the symbol of the world and of time itself. If the circle
is filled with Red, it designates the Sun; if with Blue, it designates
the Sky. Should the circle be divided into four parts, it signifies the
Four Winds. If one divides the circle into more than four parts, it symbolizes
a vision. The mouth of a Pipe should always be moved in a circle before
the Pipe is formally smoked. The traditional Native People, in long past,
firmly believe that these things and this belief lives on in today's Native
People.........
